Ayumi Vazquez wins History Contest with 
presentation on Minoru Yasui

On January 17, 2017, Ms. Ayumi Vazquez, 6th grader at Earl Rudder Middle School in San Antonio, TX, won First Prize at her school history fair with her project: “Minoru Yasui: The man who stood up against what he believed was wrong.”

 Ayumi, the younger daughter of Yoko Onuki, a Japanese-Mexican who was born and raised in Mexico City (but now a naturalized U.S. citizen), went on to place Second Prize at the regional competition on February 25.  She is one of 37 students who will advance to the State History Fair, which has as its theme: “Taking a Stand in History.”

The State Fair competiton will take place on April 29 at the University of Texas and Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin.
